Curriculum
The group programmes are designed around an in-depth knowledge of each child and it is the responsibility of the Team Leader to differentiate between the needs of the children in the group. When it is appropriate for a child to be taught either individually or in a smaller group, the structure of the day is designed to accommodate this.
Parent and child group
A partnership is created between child, parent and staff members in order to facilitate the learning process. Parent training and support is an essential part of the curriculum as it enables parents to promote their child's learning throughout the day at home. Volunteers are also trained within the groups as they have a crucial role in helping and supporting families within their local community. The programmes teach the skills that other children gain through normal development. Songs, rhymes, themes, toys and games are used to help the children achieve fundamental skills and gain confidence.
Nursery group
Nursery programmes are linked to themes which have direct relevance and meaning to the children's lives. Using a Conductive Education approach, lessons are planned to introduce concepts and foundation skills which enable the children to progress to work at a higher level, including national curriculum attainment targets. Learning takes place in groups which are appropriate to the children's level of ability. Lessons are planned around themes and incorporate the early learning goals of the foundation stage curriculum:
- Language and literacy
- Mathematic
- Creative development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world (Humanities)
- Physical development
- Personal and social development
