Preparing to face the world

School group

Here the aim is to prepare children with motor disorders for integration into mainstream or special schooling. These children have access to the national curriculum.

Those able to enter mainstream schooling begin to transfer from the PACE centre from the age of eight, with the option of attending PACE on a sessional basis thereafter. Children with more severe difficulties may require a longer period of input at PACE to prepare them for transfer to a school appropriate to their needs.

In order to benefit fully from the special curriculum in the school group children need to attend on a full-time basis. Part-time attendance requires consultation between PACE, parents and the other educational establishment in order to determine programme priorities and the sharing of responsibilities. Now listen to Becky, Richard and Lottie talk about there family's experience of the service.

Follow up - living in the community

We provide on-going support and help for older children who have left PACE but may require continued input from time to time. These children may have periodic sessions at PACE and/or attend holiday programmes.

Holiday programmes

During the summer holidays special holiday programmes are held for children with motor disorders, some of whom may not attend the PACE centre during term time.
